God’s People Are Called To Be “Watchman” Not Those Who Go Which Ever Way The Winds Blow Ezek 33: 7-9 says, 7“So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. 8If I say to the wicked, O wicked one, you shall surely die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. 9But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, that person shall die in his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul.
While this scripture specifically appoints Ezekiel as the Watchman for his nation, it expresses a general principle that “God holds all of us accountable to share with others what He reveals to us. As God’s representatives, we need to keep in mind that He will hold us accountable to share what we see and know with others.”
As Christians, we have a Divine Obligation to lead others to God’s truth – and the application of that truth. Application means we must show people how God’s truth applies to – and works out in – every aspect of their lives and ours.
10 Commandment # 9, tells us not to lie. Exodus 20: 16 & Duet 5: 20 both say, “You shall not bear false witness.” To lie and bear false witness means to a) make a false statement that you know is not true; b) fabricate a story; c) misrepresent what happened, d) to leave out essential details that would allow others to see the truth; e) intentionally deceive others.
I believe that when people suppress the Truth like saying God’s Bible cannot be read in public schools, and that people should not recite the American Pledge of Allegiance that mentions America is “One Nation Under God,” our nation gets cursed under the lie of “Separation of Church and State – a phrase which does not appear in the US Constitution – nor which can be justified from scripture. For if God expected states and governments to act independently of Him, He never would have disbanded one-world government at The Tower of Babel in Gen 10, and He never would have drowned Pharaoh’s Army in the sea, when the government disobeyed Him.
When politicians tell different groups of our society that other groups are out to get them, I believe those politicians are lying to separate us by getting us to focus on narrow subsets within each of our various groups, who actually represent very small numbers of the groups’ overall populations.
By getting us, to distrust each other and focus on the worst aspects of our human natures, politicians are doing the work of Satan. God calls us to love and forgive one another. If we allow politicians to stir up in us hatred and unforgiveness, we fail to be blessed. Thus in the Lord’s Prayer, we say “forgive us our sins/trespasses as we forgive those who sin/trespass against us.”
Living by God’s Commandments and applying them to every aspect of life, is how we get blessed individually and as a nation to be “Lifted Up In Liberty.”
